Longitudinal study of 69 work teams showing that social network ties and perceptions of psychological safety coevolve over time. PS predicts the formation of advice-seeking and friendship ties; those ties in turn shape PS perceptions. Challenges unidirectional models by showing the relationship is reciprocal — safety enables connection, connection enables safety.
